The Atlanta Falcons routed the New Orleans Saints 45-24 on Monday Night Football, ruining New Orleans’ special weekend celebration at the Superdome. The Falcons ran all over the Saints in a statement win that sends a message across the NFC. Meanwhile, the Panthers upset the previously undefeated Lions 32-26 on Sunday night. Here are the biggest takeaways from Week 5.
Falcons Offense Explodes in New Orleans
Atlanta’s offense was unstoppable from the opening kickoff. The Falcons rushed for over 200 yards and controlled the clock throughout. The Saints, who were honoring the 20th anniversary of their Superdome reopening after Hurricane Katrina, could not stop Atlanta’s ground game. The win improves the Falcons to 3-2 and puts them right back in the NFC South race.

Panthers Hand Lions First Loss
The Carolina Panthers stunned the Detroit Lions 32-26 on Sunday Night Football, handing Detroit its first loss of the season. The Panthers’ defense came up with key stops when it mattered most, and their offense put up enough points to hold on. The Lions, who had been one of the most impressive teams through four weeks, finally showed some vulnerabilities.
Bills Keep Rolling, Patriots Stay Relevant
The Buffalo Bills improved to 4-1 with another solid performance, while the New England Patriots moved to 3-2 with a key win. In the AFC, the Bills look like the team to beat, but the Patriots, Chiefs, and Steelers are all still in the mix. With the season approaching its quarter mark, the standings are starting to take shape.
